Bulldogs find success on the road again


bulldogsCLEVELAND– In a game that featured eight goals, seven fights and 35 penalties in total, the Hamilton Bulldogs emerged 6-2 victors over the Lake Erie Monsters for their sixth straight American Hockey League road win. The win, before 10, 577 onlookers improved Hamilton’s record to 20-17-0-4 while the Monsters slipped to 17-20-0-3.

The first period produced high-offense and a feisty affair with five goals and three fights. Bulldogs forward Sven Andrighetto opened the scoring with his ninth goal of the season 5:45 into the game. But just over a minute later, Paul Carey tied the game.

Christian Thomas put Hamilton ahead less than two minutes later with his fourth goal of the season. Monster Brett Clark (Powerplay) and Bulldog Joonas Nattinen exchanged goals 12 seconds apart to give Hamilton a 3-2 edge going into the second period.

Bulldogs defenceman Joel Chouinard put Hamilton ahead 4-2 with his second goal of the season before the midway mark of the second period. Thirty-four seconds after that, teammate Martin St. Pierre’s eighth goal of the season made it a 5-2 game.

With less than five minutes to go in a third period that featured three more fights, Gabriel Dumont scored on a shorthanded breakaway for his ninth goal of the season and final marker of the game.

Robert Mayer made 28 saves on 30 shots in the Bulldogs net while Calvin Pickard made 30 saves on 36 shots for the Monsters.

The Bulldogs went 0-for-6 on the power play, while the Monsters went 1-for-6.

Hamilton’s next game is scheduled for Sunday (Jan. 26), when the ‘Dogs will host the Chicago Wolves at 4 p.m. at Copps Coliseum.
