Zupan shoots down Meteors


Ancaster-AvsLuke Zupan’s four-point night carried Ancaster Avalanche to a 6-3 victory over the Fort Erie Meteors in Golden Horseshoe Conference Junior B hockey action Thursday night (Jan. 30) in the Morgan Firestone Arena.

Harrison Domagala and Chris Klack added a goal and two assists each for the Avalanche, while Marcus Baird and team scoring leader Zach Nieminen rounded out the scoring with single goals. Nieminen picked up an assist. Max Balinson set up two Ancaster goals.

Jack Webb, Richard DeMarco, and Carson Johnstone relied for Fort Erie. Aaron Wanat assisted on two of the Meteors goals.

Ancaster outshot their guests, 33-21.

Ancaster is in fifth place in the with 45 points, four back of fourth place Welland. The Avs record is 20-14-5 in wins-losses-overtime losses.

The next action for the Avs is at Fort Erie on Saturday (Feb. 1) at 7:15 p.m. in the Leisure Plex. On Tuesday night (Feb. 4) Ancaster visits the St. Catharines Falcons at the Jack Gatecliffe Arena, 7:30 p.m.

Dave Andreychuk Foundation

Molson Olympic Outdoor Hockey Tournament

Ancaster fans get ready to lace up your skates and play in the Molson Olympic Outdoor 3-on-3 Hockey Tournament in support of the Avalanche. The tournament takes place on Southcote 53’s (formerly Faloney’s) new outdoor rink. Games will be played from Feb. 20 to 23. Registration is $350 per team.
