It was a split decision for Mohawk College in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association volleyball play at St. Clair College in Windsor on Friday (Jan. 31).
The Mountaineer men beat the Saints in five sets, 25-21, 14-25, 12-25, 25-20, 15-8, to stretched their win streak to six games. Trevor McLaughlin had 19 kills to pace the winners. Eric Danecke had six kills, six blocks and one service ace. Marcin Jedrzejewski produced 10 kills, one ace and one stuff block. Defensively, Bart Jedrzejewski came up with 16 digs.
Mohawk’s record improved to 11-4, while St. Clair fell to 7-7.
The Mohawk women’s team saw a four-match win string snapped. The Mountaineers, who had put together four consecutive 3-0 sweeps, bowed in four games to the St. Clair Saints. The scores were 26-28, 16-25, 25-20, 22-25.
Kirsten Bialachowski led the visitors with 11 kills and 11 digs. Setter Corinne McGrath had eight kills, 2 stuff blocks and 29 assists.
Mohawk saw its record fall to 7-8. St. Clair improved to 7-7, as they ended a two-game slide.
Both Mohawk teams get right back into action Saturday afternoon (Feb. 1) in London against the Fanshawe Falcons.
