Bulldogs woes continue with a loss


bulldogsFor the fourth straight time, the Hamilton Bulldogs went down in defeat, losing 6-4 to the host Rockford IceHogs on Tuesday night (Feb. 4).

The setback was also the Bulldogs sixth in the teams last seven American Hockey League outings. Rockford led 1-0 after the first period and 3-1 going into the final 20 minute session. Although the Bulldogs managed three third period tallies, those scores were negated by the IceHogs three counters. Hamilton did managed to pull even just before the midway mark of the third period but couldn’t hold back the IceHogs who improved to IceHogs 22-21-4-2, fourth in the Midwest Division.

The loss left Hamilton with a 20-21—0-4 record and in third place in the Western Conference’s North Division. Hamilton is 12 points back of the division leading Toronto Marlies and six behind the Rochester Americans.

On the bright side for the Bulldogs, forward Sven Andrighetto had a four-point performance of one goal and three assists. The goal was a team-leading 10 on the season. Also scoring for Hamilton were Greg Pateryn, Maxime Macenauer, and Christian Thomas, who also had an assist. Thomas was returned to Hamilton on Monday after he was recalled by the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens.

Rockford’s goals were scored by Brandon Mashinter, with two, and Terry Broadhurst, Joakim Nordstrom, Alex Broadhurst, and Mark McNeill.

Dustin Tokarski made 18 saves on 23 shots in the Bulldogs net while Jason Labarbera made 21 saves on 25 shots for the IceHogs.

The Bulldogs went 3-for-6 on the power play, while the IceHogs went 1-for-4.

Hamilton’s next game is scheduled for Wednesday (Feb. 5) when the ‘Dogs will visit the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL affiliate of the Nashville Predators) at 8 p.m. at BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Bulldogs will return to FirstOntario Centre on Saturday, Feb. 15 when they will host the Texas Stars (AHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars) at 7 p.m.
