Bulldogs end losing streak with OT victory


bulldogs_playerThe Hamilton Bulldogs overcame a first period, three-goal deficit to beat the Binghamton Senators 5-4 in overtime on Saturday (Feb. 9).

Defenceman Jarred Tinordi scored with 30 seconds left in the extra period to give Hamilton a 21-22-0-4 record in the American Hockey League and end a five-game losing streak.

The Sens dropped to 29-15-1-3 in the game played in the nation’s capital, home of Binghamton’s National Hockey League Affiliate, the Ottawa Senators.

Binghamton forward Shane Prince started the scoring with a breakaway goal at 2:03 of the first period. Senators forward Mike Hoffman put his club ahead 2-0 just under two minutes later and Hoffman buried his second goal of the evening nine minutes later.

With just over a minute to go in the first period, Hamilton forward Mike Blunden got the ‘Dogs on the board with a power play effort for his ninth goal of the season.

Gabriel Dumont narrowed the gap to 3-2 with his team-leading 11th goal of the season in the second period and just past the midway mark of the frame, Maxime Macenauer tied the game with his sixth goal of the campaign.

In the last minute of the second period, Andre Petersson scored on the power play to give Binghamton a 4-3 lead.

Hamilton forward Christian Thomas deflected a shot by Tinordi to tie the game at four with less than five minutes to play in regulation to set up Tinordi’s OT winner.

Robert Mayer made 36 saves on 40 shots in the Bulldogs net while Nathan Lawson got the start in goal for the Senators and made six saves on seven shots in 20 minutes of action. Andrew Hammond took over at the start of the second period and made 29 saves on 33 shots for Binghamton in the loss.

Hamilton’s next game is scheduled for Sunday (Feb. 9) when the ‘Dogs will visit the Marlies at 3 p.m. at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto.
