Mohawk’s Stefanie Hrymak, a graduate of Westdale Secondary School in Hamilton, has been named OCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the seven day period ending Sunday, Feb 9.

Hrymak, a first year Health, Wellness and Fitness student, scored 22 points while grabbing eight rebounds at Sheridan on Feb. 7. She also contributed four assists and two steals. Although the Mountaineers went on to lose the game 77-72, ending a seven-game win streak, Hrymak’s efforts, including a team leading 12.2 points-per-game average, have been key to Mohawk’s late season turnaround. The team’s record is 11-5 with two regular season games remaining.

Mohawk is peaking at the right time as it will be host to the OCAA Women’s Basketball Championship, Feb. 27-March 1, at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre.

St. Catharines native Andrew Kretz, of Trent University, was named Male Volleyball Player of the Week

After beginning the season 1-11, Trent has reeled off four straight victories. First-year outside hitter Kretz has been a key contributor with a season-high 21 points in each of his last three games.

His 20 kills against cross-town rival Fleming was also a season-high.
