volleyballThe regular season Ontario Colleges Athletic Association volleyball champions from Humber scored straight sets wins over Mohawk in men’s and women’s play at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre on Wednesday (Feb. 12)

The Humber women completed a perfect 18-0 season with a 25-18, 25-5, 25-19 verdict over a game Mountaineer side which needed a major upset in this match to make it to the post season. Instead, Mohawk wound up at 7-11 and on the sidelines when it comes to the playoffs.

Chi Chi Chuks-Mady led the Mountaineers with three kills, one service ace, one stuff block and 10 digs. Julie Gagnon had 12 digs.

Fifth year Humber star Kelly Nyhof, a Canadian national team member, played her final regular season match with the Hawks, who advance directly to the OCAA championship at Durham College Feb. 20-22. Nyhof had 13 kills, one ace and three blocks.

The Humber men completed a 16-2 regular season with a 25-21, 25-17, 25-18 win over Mohawk, which wound up 12-6.

While Humber is assured a spot in the OCAA championship at Georgian College in Barrie, Feb. 20-22, the Mountaineers, who finished fourth in the West Region, have to play a cross over match this Saturday. Normally, it would be against the fifth place team in the East, but that is Georgian, which is already in the OCAA finals as hosts. So Mohawk will meet the fourth place team in the East, Loyalist, Saturday (Feb. 15), at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre.

The match will start at 4 p.m.
