The Redeemer Royals women’s volleyball team is headed back to the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association’s championships. The Lady Royals won their qualifying match on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 15) to advance them to the Final 8 next weekend.
The Lady Royals knocked off the Algonquin Thunder in four games, 25-18, 21-25, 25-19, and 25-22.
Charlene DeVries had a monster game for the Royals with eight kills, six aces, and one block for 15 points. Curtiss Straatsma added 14 points.
The Lady Royals finished the season with a record setting 13 wins against five losses.
While the women’s advanced, it was a tough day for the Royals men, who fell to the George Brown Huskies in four games, 22-25, 25-19, 25-27, 25-20.
Redeemer took the first set but the Huskies stormed back winning the next three, ending Redeemer’s season.
The OCAA Women’s Volleyball Provincial Championship is hosted by Durham College in Oshawa while the men’s championship will be hosted by Georgian College in Barrie.
Both events run Feb. 20-22.
