The Bulldogs let a two-goal advantage slip away and fell, 3-2, to the Texas Stars in an American Hockey League game in Hamilton on Saturday night (Feb. 15).

The game was the first home event for the Bulldogs since their ‘Dog pound was renamed FirstOntario Centre.

Bulldogs goalie Dustin Tokarski was peppered with 47 shots, 13 in the first period when his skating teammates took nine shots on Cristopher Nilstorp. Those nine shots, however, produced two goals by Nick Tarnasky and Louis Leblanc, the tenth of the season for both Bulldogs.

The Stars, who are two points shy of first place in the Western Conference’s West Division, came up with two second period goals – one just 13 seconds into the session- to pull even with the hosts. Travis Morin and Curtis McKenzie tied matters and after a scoreless third period the teams went into overtime. Both counters were powerplay efforts.

Chris Mueller ended the drama scoring before the period was two minutes old. The Stars managed four shots on net while the Bulldogs had none in the OT.

The win improved the Stars to 30-15-2-4 and the loss dropped Hamilton to 22-22-1-4 and third in the Western Conference’s North Division.

Hamilton was outshot 47-27.

Hamilton went 0-for-5 on the power play, while Texas went 2-for-5.

Hamilton’s next game is scheduled for Monday (Feb. 17) when the ‘Dogs will host the San Antonio Rampage (AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers) at FirstOntario Centre at 1 p.m. The Rampage have a 21-21-3-5 record.
