Mohawk duo challenge for national badminton title

BadmintonOntario Colleges Athletic Association title holders Victoria Hall and Kimloung Lim of Mohawk College have advanced to the final in women’s doubles at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Badminton National Championships in Edmonton Saturday (March 1).

Hall and Lim went 5-0 in preliminary matches, losing just one game in eleven played and outscored their opposition 228-151. The Mountaineer duo then defeated Seneca’s Carol Dela Cerna and Katie Liu 21-13, 21-13 in Friday’s (Feb. 28) semi-finals. They will meet Powin Lau and Jessica Yu of the host ACAC team from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) for the title. It promises to be a tough final as Lau and Yu were the only team to take a game from Hall and Lim in the prelims, eventually bowing 21-14, 15-21, 21-16.

Meantime, the Mohawk men’s doubles team of Adam D’Agostino and Kianoosh Moslemi were 2-3 in preliminary play, but made the semi-finals where their gold medal hopes were dashed with a loss to the PACWEST team of Graydon Robb and Pat Thompson from Vancouver Island University. D’Agostino and Moslemi will now face the ACAC team of Andy Ko and Jake Perry from NAIT in the 3/4 match Saturday.
