MVC girls bring home fourth gold

The Mountain Volleyball Club 13U Black team collected its fourth Gold medal of the season in dramatic fashion at the 13U Bugarski Cup-Championship West held in Stratford on Saturday (March 1).

Placing first in pool play, MVC 13U Black defeated Burlington Blaze, 25-22, 25-14, and the Oakville Thunder, 25-14, 25-13.

In the quarter-finals, MVC 13U Black pushed past the Halton Hurricanes, 25-16, 26-24. In the semi-finals, MVC 13U Black split the first two sets -25-20, 17-25, and found themselves trailing 10-1 in the deciding set. But a rally lifted them to a 14-10 advantage that became a 16-14 win over the Guelph Grizzlies.

The pressure continued and the MVC 13U Black earned every ounce of gold toppling the Etobicoke Titans, 25-21, 25-21 for the championship medal.

The MVC 13U Black team is coached by Peter Stratford of Burlington, Christine Kalata of Oakville and Kaitlin Mattiozzi of Hamilton. Players include Sophie Hollingshead and Ella Carter, of Hamilton; Natalie Ogrodnik, Taite Cleland, Sarah Treffry, and Meira Morphet, all of Ancaster; Alexie Chevrier and Samantha Honaizer, of Binbrook; Mairin Clarke, of Burlington; and Emily Keeting of Milton.
