Marauders challenge rowers for dry land event

On Saturday, March 22, the Marauders rowing team will host the annual Mac 2×4 Challenge. Ergometers will be set up in the McMaster Student Centre Atrium for this exciting event. Teams of four race an 8,000 metre relay, with each athlete taking roughly a dozen strokes at maximum power before jumping off the erg to let their teammates take over for the next strokes.

This is the most unique indoor rowing race of the season, and one you don’t want to miss!

In previous years, strong competition has come from Brock, Trent, Guelph, Queen’s and many local high schools, with many of the event’s records being set by Western Mustang athletes.

Registration is open to everyone, including non-rowing athletes such as local gyms. This includes other Marauder varsity teams. The McMaster rowing team would like to challenge other varsity athletes to put together four-person teams (co-ed, co-sport) to compete.

The Mac rowing Club will teach novice participants proper erg technique for the event.

There are categories for high school (senior, senior lightweight, junior, junior lightweight), university (varsity, lightweight varsity, junior varsity, junior lightweight varsity), open club, and masters.

Teams of four must register by March 19 by contacting head coach Steffan Wagner at leanderindoors@gmail.com. Cost is $40 per team of four.
