Penguins waddle past Bulldogs


Three unanswered goals in the second period by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton proved the downfall of the Bulldogs on Saturday evening (March 8) as Hamilton was edged by the Penguins 4-2 at FirstOntario Centre.

The loss was Hamilton’s second in as many nights after putting together a three-game win streak.

Although Hamilton had taken a 1-0 lead on Gabriel Dumont’s marker with just under five minutes to go in the opening frame, Wilkes/Barre responded in the sandwich frame with three goals before the period was 11 minutes old. Andrew Ebbett and Tom Kostopoulos scored on powerplay situations and Denver Manderson added an even-up score.

Mike Blunden pulled Hamilton to within a goal when he connected on the Bulldogs powerplay for his 13th goal of the season.

Ebbett picked up his second goal of the night with an empty net marker with 53 second left in the game.

Wilkes/Barre outshot Hamilton, 35-32.

Hamilton went 1-for-6 on the power play, while Wilkes-Barre / Scranton went 2-for-4.

Hamilton’s next game is scheduled for Sunday (March 9) when the ‘Dogs will host the Lake Erie Monsters at FirstOntario Centre at 3 p.m.
