Bulldogs unable to stop the bleeding, drop fourth straight


bulldogsFor a fourth straight game, the Hamilton Bulldogs absorbed an American Hockey League setback, falling 5-1 to the Penguins, Friday night (March 14).

Hamilton has been outscored 15-5 during those four game.

The Penguins scored two goals in each of the first and second period and added a single tally in the final 20 minutes of play. Anton Zlobin paced the Penguins with a pair of goals while Andrew Ebbett, Chuck Kobasew, and Brian Dumoulin contributed singles. Ebbett’s goal was a shorthanded penalty shot. Kobasew and Dumoulin scored 23 seconds apart in the second period.

Hamilton’s lone marker came from Mike Blunden, his 14th goal of the season.

The defeat left Hamilton with a 25-29-1-4 record. The Penguins improved to 33-20-3-5.

Devan Dubnyk started in goal for Hamilton and made 10 saves on 14 shots in 35 minutes before he was lifted in favour of Robert Mayer, who stopped four of five shots. Peter Mannino made 26 saves on 27 shots for the Penguins.

Hamilton went 0-for-4 on the power play, while Wilkes-Barre / Scranton went 1-for-2.

Hamilton’s next game is scheduled for Saturday (March 15) when the ‘Dogs will visit the Syracuse Crunch. The Bulldogs return to FirstOntario Centre on Wednesday (March 19) when the Abbotsford Heat visit.
