Mohawk curlers chasing national title

The Mohawk men’s and women’s curling teams are in Sault Ste. Marie for the start of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Curling Championships.

The first draw is set for Wednesday (March 19) at 2 p.m. at the Soo Curlers (club).

The Mountaineer women will take on MacEwan University of Edmonton in their opening game.

The Mohawk women’s team, which won an Ontario Colleges Athletic Association silver medal in the Soo a month ago, is skipped by Kendall Haymes and includes vice Avery Thomas, second Nikki Steep, lead Allison Vail and spare Elise Doyle.

The Mohawk men play OCAA rival Humber in their first game. The Mountaineer rink includes skip James Freeman, vice Logan James, second James Maslen, lead Cody Strong and spare Jared Ziliani.

Mohawk’s curling teams are coached by Betty Wackley and Matt Kimber.

Play will continue until Saturday.
