Penalty shot goal seals win for Bulldogs

Hamilton got goals from Mike Blunden, Christian Thomas and Gabriel Dumont while netminder Dustin Tokarski picked up the win in his return from a stint with the Montreal Canadiens as the Bulldogs beat the Abbotsford Heat 3-1 in an American Hockey League game on Wednesday night (March 19) at FirstOntario Centre.

Abbotsford’s lone goal came from defenceman Chris Breen, who opened the scoring at 8:56 of the first period. Blunden tied the game with his 15th of the season before the period was over. Thomas scored his marker in the second period and with just four minutes to go in the third period, Dumont got hauled down on a breakaway chance, then scored on the ensuing penalty shot.

Tokarski made 27 saves on 28 shots for the Bulldogs while Aaron Dell made 36 saves on 39 shots for the Heat.

Hamilton went 0-for-2 on the power play, while Abbotsford went 0-for-3.

Hamilton’s next game is scheduled for Friday (March 21), when the ‘Dogs will host the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL affiliate of the Nashville Predators) at FirstOntario Centre at 7:30 p.m.
