Mountaineers impress in all-star showcases


It was quite a day Saturday (March 22) for Mohawk College’s All-Canadian guard Matt Fennell. The London native put up 16 points, including 12 from beyond the three-point arc, and was named Most Valuable Player even though his West Division side lost 97-96 to the East in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Basketball All-Star Game at Durham College.

Earlier in the day Fennell won the ‘Three-point Shootout’ in the NBA Skills Competition.

Alex Reis also represented the Mountaineers on the West team. Andrew Cicuttini was named to the team, but was unavailable to play.

Meantime, Mohawk’s Chi Chi Chuks-Mady won the ‘Hardest Spike’ in the volleyball skills competition. And Chuks-Mady’s West Division team scored an exciting five set win over the East in the Volleyball All-Star Game. The final set score was 15-9.

The men’s volleyball contest the West downed the East 4-1. Bryce Marcussen was a member of the winning side and Mark Kaveckas took part in the skills competition.
