Mohawk Mountaineer’s fourth-year guard Matt Fennell (London) was selected Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Male Basketball Player of the Week in his division for the period ending March 23.

Fennell was named West player of the game in a 97-96 loss to Team East at the annual OCAA all-star game. The all-Canadian and OCAA West scoring champion scored 16 points, a dozen of which came from behind the three-point line.

And for the same period, Redeemer’s men took two honours. The Royals indoor soccer squad claimed Team of the Week honours while team member Josh Elgeti was named Overall Male Athlete of the Week.

Elgeti (Peterborough) was named most valuable player at the OCAA Men’s Indoor Soccer Championship, leading the Royals to their first provincial championship since 2008. The upstart Royals needed two overtime victories in the playoffs to claim the title.

Home turf advantage was more than kind to the Redeemer Royals who defeat Centennial 1-0 in the semi-final, then Conestoga 2-1 in the championship finale, both in extra time.
