Bulldogs find scoring touch against Rampage

bulldogsThree unanswered third-period goals were the difference for the Hamilton Bulldogs Friday night in San Antonio, Texas, as they matched their season high in offensive output in a 6-3 victory over the Rampage.

San Antonio got on the board first just over three minutes into the opening frame of the American Hockey League contest when Wade Megan beat goaltender Devan Dubnyk. Goals from Maxime Macenauer and Sven Andrighetto before the period was over gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead to take into the first intermission.

The Rampage pulled even in the second period when Matt Gilroy banged in a rebound. But with less than five minutes to play in the period, the ‘Dogs regained the lead when Macenauer jumped on a rebound for his eighth goal of the season and second for the night.

Fifty-two seconds into the third period, San Antonio tied things at 3-3 when forward Jared Gomes scored.

That was as close as the Rampage would get, however. Less than two minutes later, Greg Pateryn unleashed a slap shot from the point past Michael Houser to regain the lead for the Bulldogs.

Christian Thomas and Jordan Owens (into an empty net for his first goal as a Bulldog) completed Hamilton’s scoring.

Devan Dubnyk made 20 saves on 23 shots in the Bulldogs net. Houser stopped 44 of 49 shots for the Rampage.

Hamilton went 1-for-4 on the power play, while San Antonio went 0-for-3.

Hamilton’s next game is scheduled for Saturday (March 29), when the ‘Dogs will visit the Texas Stars at Cedar Park.
