Wentworth Minor football players feted by association


hwmfa-tigerFootball players from all seven Hamilton Wentworth Minor Football Association (HWMFA) teams competing in the Central Ontario Minor Football League capped their season with the association’s first Grassroots Year End Gala.

Highlight of the night was the presentation of trophies and awards to players from the various age-group teams in the Fall rep program.

Recognized were Most Outstanding Defensive Player, Most Outstanding Offensive Player, Most Valuable Player, Most Outstanding Lineman and the Tiger-Cat Award to each team which is presented to the player who best exemplified teamwork and commitment to the game as part of the CFL Hamilton Tiger-Cats Play Action program.

The Nov. 14 affair was organized by the association’s Roar Club, a group of parent volunteers who run all the off-field events and activities for the HWMFA.

The event was emceed by Pigskin Pete and included guest appearances by members of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, the Toronto Argonauts, Hamilton Police Chief Glenn DeCaire, and McMaster Marauder head coach Stephan Ptaszek. Live music was provided by Reflexion.

Opening remarks were made by Dave Watkins of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. HWMFA’s Joe Sardo followed with a vision of what the future holds for the association.
