Tickets for the inaugural Hamilton Sports Hall of Fame Induction Dinner are now available.
Charter members of the new shrine will include 11 individuals and one team for the Sept. 28 gala affair. Inductees in the Athletes category will include: Jackie Callura (boxing); Harry Howell (hockey); Russ Jackson (football); Mel LaForme (rowing); Ray Lewis and Billy Sherring (track); and Joanne Malar (swimming).
Entering as a Builder is David Braley (football) while Bill Friday goes in as an Official (hockey). Jimmy Thompson is recognized as a coach (swimming) and Claude Saunders efforts in rowing drew recognition as an Athlete and Builder.

The female segment of Mountain Athletic Club Volleyball has acquired a new name – the Mountain Volleyball Club to start the 2010-11 season.
And with a fresh campaign about to start, the MVC has tryout dates for female volleyball athletes ages 13U to 17U. Tryout dates and times for teams will be posted on the club’s website at mountainvolleyball.net.
The first of four tryouts athletes interested in playing in the 16U (1995) division will begin on Saturday (Aug. 28), 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Hamilton’s Art Oliver Jr., has had a busy summer. After competing in the Tournament of the Americas in Orlando he was home only two days before leaving for the Men’s World Championships in Munich.
In Orlando, Oliver was ninth in singles, improving to sixth in doubles, then 10th in mixed doubles to finish 11th in all events with a 195 average for 36 games. In the adult team national all events, Oliver picked up a bronze medal. Overall, the Canadian team collected one gold medal in junior girls doubles, three silver medals and six bronze medals.

Hamilton’s Don Thomson Jr. drove to Victory Lane at Mosport Speedway for the second time in his career as he took the Dickies 200 checkered flag in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 action Saturday night.
Thomson, driver of the No. 4 Home Hardware Chevrolet, took the lead for the fifth and final time on Lap 178 and held off teammate JR Fitzpatrick and Kerry Micks down the stretch for his sixth career victory overall. Thomson’s last win came on Sept. 12, 2008 at Barrie Speedway – 10 races ago. His first win at Mosport Speedway came in August 2007.
Fitzpatrick finished as the race runner-up and was able to extend his points lead on DJ Kennington, who earned the pole earlier in the day, to 16. Kennington finished sixth.

Four American Hockey League games featuring the Hamilton Bulldogs will be broadcast this season on the CBC network.
The league and the network have announced a one-year broadcast agreement that will see Canada’s national public broadcaster produce and broadcast 10 games during the 2010-11 season.
The Bulldogs, celebrating their 15th anniversary, will be shown on Sunday, Oct. 24, against the expansion Oklahoma City Barons, AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers. The Bulldogs (Montreal Canadiens) will then battle the Toronto Marlies, AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, on Sunday Nov. 21, Sunday, Dec. 12 and Sunday, March 6.
