St. Mary’s has golden oars heading into London Regatta

The St. Mary’s High School rowing crew has been making waves as it tunes up for this weekend’s London Regatta, hosted by the Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association by collecting several gold medals.

Competing at the Mother’s Day Regatta at Henley Island in St. Catharine’s, St. Mary’s brought home two gold medals: one in the senior women’s 63kg (midweight) 8+, and the other in the junior women’s 63kg 4+.

On the May holiday weekend, St. Mary’s crews rowed themselves to four more gold medal finishes and two silver medals at the South Niagara High School Invitational Regatta. The senior women’s 59kg (lightweight) 4+, the senior women’s pair, the junior women’s 63kg (midweight) 4+, and the junior men’s double all won gold medals.
Silver went to the senior women’s 63kg 8+ and the senior women’s 4+.

The male crew is in a rebuilding with several rookies this year but they all advanced to finals.

Poor weather conditions forced organizers to cancel Sunday’s semifinals finals where St. Mary’s looked strong. All the St. Mary’s crews were first in their respective heats.
