Women’s National Softball Team, U.S. Pros stage mini tour


Olympian Cindy Eadie of Brantford and her Senior Women’s National Softball teammates, will take on an allstar cast in a mini-series of exhibition games this month (June).

Softball Canada’s National Team will tour southern Ontario playing its Elite team and the New England Riptide of the Women’s Professional Fast Pitch league from June 17 to 25.
Eadie was a member of Canada’s 2004 Summer Olympic team in Athens. In the off-season, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawk, has established a reputation as a goaltender and was an all-star in Ontario University Athletics play. An honours students while at Laurier, the 23-year-old infielder has represented Canada internationally at two Canada Cups, a Three-Nations Cup, and a U.S. Cup.

Also on the National Team are Angela Lichty of Guelph, and Rachel Schill of Kitchener.

Playing for the Elite team is Port Dover’s Megan Timpf. The shortstop starred for the California University of Pennsylvania Vulcans this past spring season. The junior was tied for most homeruns (5), third in batting average (.331), and had 22 RBI in 43 games. Timpf was in the top five in almost every offensive category for the Vulcans.

The series will be the Elite teams first opportunity to play together as a team. It will consist of a six game schedule and a 1 day clinic.

June 17: National Team Clinic – 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Peter Hallman Ball Yard, Kitchener

June 18: Canada Elite vs. Canada, 7 p.m., Arand Field, Milverton

June 19: Canada Elite vs. Canada, 7 p.m., Exhibition Softball Park, Guelph

June 22: New England Riptide vs. Canada, 7 p.m., Peter Hallman

June 23: Riptide vs. Canada, 7 p.m., Old Brampton Fairgrounds, Brampton

June 24: Riptide vs. Canada, 7 p.m., Peter Hallman

June 25: Riptide vs. Canada, 1 p.m., Peter Hallman
