Ross sits alone in second at Champion of Champions tournament

Baddeck, N.S. – Andrew Ross of Dundas is right where he was yesterday – in second place – only today he’s not sharing the spot.

The Hamilton and Golf and Country Club champion is two strokes back of Phil Patterson’s two-round total of 142 at the Canadian Club Champions Championship. Patterson from the Prescott Golf Club, repeated his Tuesday opening round of 71 on Wednesday (June 28).

Ross shot a 73 on Wednesday and his 144 total leaves him even heading in Thursday’s third round. Leon Carter of Dundee Resort Golf & Country Club in River Bourgeois (Nova Scotia) and last year’s runner up Terry O’Brien of Tangle Creek Golf Club in Barrie (Ontario) are both four strokes off the lead at 146.

Nine players are within seven shots of Patterson.

Last year’s winner, Victor Ciesielski of Galt Country Club in Cambridge, had a one-under par 71 to share the daily low round with Patterson and Marc-Étienne Bussières of Club de Golf Rivermead in Gatineau (Quebec). Ciesielski, 21, has a two-day total of 80-71–151. Last year he rallied from a 13-stroke deficit after the opening stroll and this year he found himself 10 strokes behind the leader after the opening round.

Tuesday’s leader, Michel Landry of Tracadie (New Brunswick) and the Club de Golf Pokemouche in Caraquet (New Brunswick) struggled and fell into a tie for ninth position. Landry carded a 79 for a two-day score of 149. Landry, Patterson and Ross all cited wind as a factor in today’s action.

The field will be cut to the lowest 70 scores and ties after today’s third round.
