Mountaineers look forward to OCAA women’s fastball finale after loss to Lords

There’s little doubt that the Oshawa Durham College Lords belong in first place in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association women’s fastball league.

The 11-1 team downed the third place Mohawk Mountaineers 15-1 at Mohawk Sports Park on Monday. Three big innings highlighted the Lords mastery over the Mountaineers. Durham scored four times in the fourth inning, four more times in the sixth, and had a five run finale in the seventh.

The lone Mohawk run came in the bottom of the fourth when Dana Steckle (Brantford) smacked a double and scored on a Meaghan Nadwodny (Townsend) single combined with a throwing error.

Mohawk starter Jenny Koschanow (Dundas) was tagged with the defeat. Danielle Cook (Waterdown) came on in relief in the sixth inning for the Mountaineers, who finished the regular season with a 6-6 mark and now prepare for the OCAA championship on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 20-21) at St. Clair College in Windsor.
