Wings extend win streak to three games in Junior A hockey


Hamilton Junior Red Wings are looking to make it four in a row Monday night after getting goals from eight players in a 9-2 romp over the Streetsville Derbys on Saturday night.

The win, which followed Friday night’s 4-1 victory over the Milton IceHawks and last Monday’s win over the Burlington Cougars, leaves the 16-4-2-2 Junior Wings in fourth place with 36 points, one behind third place Burlington in the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockley League standings.

Monday night the Wings host the West Division’s ninth place Buffalo Junior Sabres who bring their 4-17-4-0 record to the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena for the 7.30 p.m. game.

Spencer Abbott had a pair of goals for Hamilton and added an assist for a three-point night on Saturday. Luke Watson, Marc Hagel, Josh Van Dyk, Steve Mullin, Corey Stringer, Tommy Cole, and Anthony Ruberto had singles for the Wings. Mike Galbraith had three assists and Van Dyk had two assists to go with his goal. In all, 16 Wings, including goalie Cam Talbot with an assist, got onto the scoresheet.

Hamilton took a 4-0 lead after the first period and extended it to 7-2 after two periods.

On Friday night in Milton, Mullin had three goals in the 4-1 win over the IceHawks. Hagel added the other marker. Frankie Grandits had two assists. Milton had only 14 shots on goalie Talbot while the Wings fired 36 at Vince Cusick.
