Mountaineers drop exhibition cage game to Humber

Down early and never able to get back into the game.

That was the fate of the Mohawk Mountaineers who dropped a 93-50 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association men’s exhibition basketball game to the Humber Hawks on Saturday night.

The visiting Mountaineers, who are 3-3 in West Division play, found themselves trailing by 22 points early in the game and did manage to whittle the deficit to 11 points with just over 10 minutes remaining to play.

“We came out flat and we played with no energy,” offered Mohawk head coach Brian Jonker. But then the Hawks, 2-1 in the Central Division, went on a 17-0 run and put the game in the can.

Igor Trbojevic (Hamilton) topped Mohawk’s shooters with 14 points followed by Panyin Kyei (Toronto), with 10, and Dave Almas (Hamilton) with seven.

Mohawk’s next league game will be Friday (Dec. 1) at the Fennell Gym, when the Windsor St. Clair Saints visit.
