Spencer Abbott’s three goals and two assists and Frankie Grandits three goals and one assist highlighted the Hamilton Junior Red Wings offensive power Monday night when they sliced the Buffalo Junior Sabres 12-2.
Sixteen Hamilton players figured in the scoring as the Red Wings moved into a share of first place in the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League’s West Division. Oakville and Hamilton each have 68 points but the Blades have one more win and have played one more game. Oakville did not play on Monday.
Josh Van Dyke (with two assists), Kyle Jukosky, Zac Rinaldo, Mike Galbraith (with two assists), Luke Watson, and Wes Consorti had single goals for the Red Wings who outshot the visitors to the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena, 49-25. Steve Mullin, Corey Stringer, Chris Dunsmuir, and Dustin Alcock each had two assists for the winners.
Erik Crawford was in net for Hamilton and stopped 23 of the 25 shots he faced.
The win was Hamilton’s ninth straight while the Sabres went down to their ninth consecutive defeat.
Hamilton next plays in Burlington on Friday (Jan. 19) at Central Arena.
