Wings looking at opening round series sweep

Hamilton Junior Red Wings are one win away from sweeping their opening round playoff series against the Streetsville Derbys.

Hamilton could wrap up the best-of-seven Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League affair with a win Friday night (Feb. 16) in Streetsville. The Junior Wings have taken the first three games by scores of 5-3, 6-1 and 9-1.

A win by the Derbys on Friday night would send the series back to Hamilton for a game at the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena on the following night at 7:30pm.

Mike Galbraith paced the Wings latest win with a five-point night, three goals and two assists.Steve Mullin and Frankie Grandits each had a goal and a pair of helpers with Kyle Jukosky, Spencer Abbott, Dustin Alcock, and Scott Duncan scoring one apiece.

Josh Van Dyke had four assists.

Stephen DiMonte had the lone Derbys’ goal.

Wings goalie Cam Talbot stopped 24 of the 25 shots he faced while Derbys’ netminders Dillon Branco and Adrian Gutierrez looked at 45 Hamilton shots.

In the 6-1 victory, Mullin had two goals with singles coming from Jukosky, Abbott, Galbraith, and Grandits. Van Dyke had three helpers and Galbraith two The Wings fired 50 shots at Branco while Talbot was tested 25 times. Garrick Griffith had the Derbys’ counter.

In the opening game, Jukosky scored a pair with singles coming from Matt Davis, Mullin, and Galbraith. Van Dyke, Grandits, and Zac Rinaldo each contributed two assists.
Branco was tested 49 times while Talbot faced 30 Streetsville shots. Josh Vella, Mike Iwanski and Brando Cribari scored for the Derbys.
