Mohawk’s season on the line in women’s volleyball play

It’s do-or-die for the Mohawk women’s volleyball team on Saturday (Feb. 17).

The Mountaineers must win a cross-over qualifier game against Belleville’s Loyalist College to advance to the Ontario College Athletic Association’s playoffs on Feb. 22-24 in Barrie.

Mohawk completed regular-season play on Thursday night, losing 3-2 to visiting Fanshawe Falcons. The see-saw affair was finally taken by the London team, 25-22, 19-25, 25-13, 18-25, 12-15.

Three Mountaineers had 13 points. Slavica Beader had 10 kills and three service aces. Lindsay Fenner collected seven kills, two stuff blocks and four aces. Sarah Borycki had eight kills, three blocks and two aces.

Mohawk wrapped up the season with an 8-6 record in the Central West Region.

Last weekend, the Mountaineers split a northern Ontario series, beating Canadore College, 25-15, 25-20, and 25-16, but lost to Nipissing 25-22, 16-25, 11-25, and 14-25.
