Wings look to even Junior A hockey playoffs

Hamilton Junior Red Wings aim to even their Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League semifinal series on Monday after the Aurora Tigers used a 5-2 win to grab the opening game in their best-of-seven affair.

Mike Dahlinger, Joey Martin and Paul Zanette would give the Tigers a 3-0 lead by the 4:11 mark of the second period before the Junior Red Wings could reply in Saturday night’s affair.

Corey Stringer, with his first of two, would narrow the score to 3-1 with a goal just past the half way point of the middle stanza and pull the Hamilton visitors to within one goal with another marker at 12.00 of the final frame.

But Joey Martin increased the Tigers lead at 14.37 and Alain Goulet added an empty net insurance marker when Hamilton opted for the extra skater.

The second game in the series starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena.
