The Hamilton Bulldogs open their 12th American Hockey League training camp with 32 players today.
Twenty-seven of those players expected to report were assigned to the Bulldogs by their National Hockey League parent club, the Montreal Canadiens. Five more will join the team’s first on-ice session today at 10 a.m. at Hamilton’s Mohawk 4 Ice Centre.
Returning players from last season include forwards Mathieu Aubin, Eric Manlow, Duncan Milroy, Matt D’Agostini, Cory Urquhart, Jimmy Bonneau, Francis Lemieux, Jonathan Ferland, Ajay Baines and Corey Locke, defencemen Jon Gleed, Andrew Archer, Mathieu Biron and Jean-Philippe Cote, and goaltenders Cedrick Desjardins and Yann Danis. Others who spent time with Hamilton last season, but never played a game, include forwards Greg Stewart and Sergei Kostitsyn, and defenceman Mathieu Carle.
Newcomers include forwards Janne Lahti (HPK Hameenlinna, FNL), Ryan Russell (Kootenay, Western Hockey League), Thomas Beauregard (Acadie-Bathurst, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League) and David Desharnais (Chicoutimi, QMJHL / Bridgeport, AHL), defencemen Pavel Valentenko (Nizhnekamsk – RSL), Jamie Rivers (Peoria, AHL / St. Louis, NHL) and Marvin Degon (Hartford, AHL), as well as rookie goaltender Loic Lacasse (Quebec, QMJHL).
Also invited to the Bulldogs’ training camp are forwards Barret Ehgoetz (Cincinnati, East Coast Hockey League) and Scott Champagne (Mercyhurst, National Collegiate Athletic Association, / Texas, ECHL), and defencemen Scott Reynolds (Cincinnati, ECHL), Gerard Miller (Flint, United Hockey League) and Dominic D’Amour (Toronto, AHL), who signed a Professional Try Out agreement.
Danis, Archer, Biron, Rivers, Cote, Milroy, Urquhart, Ferland and Locke must clear waivers before reporting to Hamilton.
The Bulldogs will visit four arenas in Hamilton during their training camp, including Mohawk 4 Ice Centre (710 Mountain Brow Boulevard), Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena (25 Hester Street), Chedoke Arena (91 Chedmac Drive) and Copps Coliseum. The team’s full training camp schedule is as follows:

All practices, except the game-day morning skates, are open to the public. Admission is free with a donation of a non-perishable food item in support of the Neighbour to Neighbour Centre in Hamilton.
The Bulldogs pre-season exhibition schedule is as follows: Sept. 26, 7 p.m. vs Toronto Marlies @ Burlington Central Arena; Sept. 28, 7:35 p.m. at the Americans, Rochester, N.Y. ESL Sports Centre; Sept. 29, 4 p.m. vs Rochester Americans at Hagersville Arena.
Last season’s Calder Cup champions open their home schedule on Friday, Oct. 12, at 7:30 p.m. against the Rochester Americans.
