Despite an offensive effort that had Hamilton out shooting their Georgetown Raiders guests on Monday night (Sept. 24), 45-27, the Red Wings were on the short end of a 4-3 score in Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League action.
Georgetown opened the scoring and never trailed in the game while fighting off the Red Wings who had the edge in shots (15-13, 14-8, and 16-6) at the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena.
The Raiders had period leads of 2-1 and 4-2.
Scoring for the Red Wings were Wes Consorti, Spencer Abbott and Luke Watson. Steve Spade had two assists for the Wings. Fred Gervasi, Lucas Ciotti,Trevor Branning and Lyle Essery had the Raiders’ goals.
Kevin Campbell started in goal for Hamilton but was replaced with Tom Lescovich midway through the second period.
The loss left Hamilton in second place in the Western Division, one point back of the Raiders. Hamilton’s record is 4-3 while Georgetown is 4-1-1. Hamilton was penalized 20 minutes from six infractions, Georgetown had 28 minutes from 10 penalties.
Hamilton’s next game is Saturday (Sept.29) when they travel to Streetsville for a 7:30 p.m. contest. Their next home game is Monday (Oct. 1) when Oakville visits.
