The reigning Ontario Colleges Athletic Association rugby champion Mohawk Mountaineers made it four straight wins, whitewashing the Fleming Auks 48-0 in Lindsay on Wednesday (Sept. 26).
Mountaineers’ coach Alex Paris said it was a scrappy game on both sides of the ball and Fleming’s inexperience showed throughout the game.
“Defence was the name of the game for us, said Paris. “We challenged ourselves this week to step up our defence.
“Chadd Eliiot had a big game, putting in many tackles. Our back row of James Cumpson, Tyler Struyk and Adam Davidson played very well getting around the field, disrupting much of the Fleming (play).”
Cumpson led Mohawk scoring with three tries and four conversions. Other tries went to Danny Billett, Ryan Nevitt, Cameron Watson, Pavel Palma and Brett Schneider. The Mountaineers’ next action is also on the road. They visit Conestoga Wednesday (Oct. 3).
