Mohawk men’s soccer coach not pleased with effort

The Mohawk men’s soccer team got off to a good start but then bowed 3-1 to Conestoga in Kitchener on Tuesday October 2.

Freshman Adam Bond, who was the OCAA’s top male athlete in week two, struck for his fourth goal of the season in the first 10 minutes and the Mountaineers held their one goal lead until half time. However, the Condors’ three unanswered markers in the second half took them to their first victory of the season. Mohawk slipped to 2-2.

It was not a happy Mohawk coach Richard Bennett, who said Conestoga wanted (the game) more. “We wasted opportunities in the second half, but we went flat and had a lack of desire to win. You have to have pride in yourself and the college.”

Despite the loss, the Mountaineers remain one point back of third place Fanshawe, which lost to Sheridan. Mohawk is tied with Niagara for fourth in the West Region standings and the Knights visit Mohawk Sports Park today (Thursday, Oct. 4) at 4:30.
