The Mohawk women’s fastball team has been named the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Female Team of the Week.
The Mountaineers found themselves in a must win situation when they travelled to North York Oct. 11 and they came through with flying colours, defeating the Seneca Sting 7-1 to clinch a berth in the OCAA championship. Ellie Hogg, Caitlin Carverhill and Michelle James combined for four runs and three runs batted in in support of winning pitcher Jenny Koschanow, who went the distance, allowing only one run on three hits for her third victory of the season.
The OCAA championship tournament is this weekend (Oct. 20-21) in Oshawa. Other teams taking part include Conestoga, St. Clair and host Durham.
