For the second consecutive night, the Hamilton Bulldogs were shutout, this time by a 2-0 score to to their division rivals, the Syracuse Crunch, on Saturday night at Copps Coliseum. The loss drops Hamilton’s record to 19-19-1-5 heading into the American Hockey League’s all-star break.
On Friday night, Hamilton was on the short end of a 4-0 result in favour of the Quad City Flames.
After a scoreless opening period Saturday, the Crunch struck at 4:45 of the second frame on the power play. Adam Pineault jumped on a rebound and deposited the puck into the net. It was Pineault’s 13th goal of the season.
Syracuse had a golden opportunity to stretch its lead at 12:04 of the third period. Trevor Frischmon was awarded a penalty shot and beat Bulldogs’ goaltender Carey Price but rung his shot off of the post.
Syracuse made amends for the missed penalty shot opportunity when Clay Wilson fired a shot over the blocker of Price less than two minutes later. It was Wilson’s seventh marker of the campaign.
Price made 33 saves on 35 shots for Hamilton while Syracuse netminder Adam Munro stopped the 16 of the shots he faced.
The Bulldogs were 0-for-8 with the man advantage, while the Crunch went 1-for-7 on the power play.
Combined with Friday’s night’s goose egg, Hamilton has been held scoreless for a span of 135:47. The two losses also mark the first time the Bulldogs have been shutout in consecutive games since Nov. 13 and 17, 2004 when the ‘Dogs dropped two 3-0 decisions to the Cleveland Barons and Edmonton Road Runners respectively.
