Shutouts highlight women’s hockey in Stoney Creek play

Goalie Martine Esraelian had the shutout to lead Stoney Creek F & M Signs to a 3-0 win over Stoney Creek Purple Haze in Stoney Creek Women’s Hockey League Senior Rec action. Amy Elder, Katie Tansley and Lindsey Logan scored the goals with assists from Lorraine Poulin, Liana Scornaienchi and Kathy Toding.

Lisa Brown scored twice and Pam Dawson had two helpers to pace their Stoney Creek Opti-Mrs Right Wingers to a 5-2 victory against Stoney Creek All Cover Black Attack. Nadine Corbett, Cheryl Durham and Cheryl Morash had the other Opti-Mrs goals with Sue Mitchell, Corbett and Durham registering assists. Tracy VanDijk and Sandy Habros replied for the Black Attack, assisted by Jamie Lee McGilvery, Crystal DeMontigny, Danielle Coulter and Anne Timberg.

Lynne Vidal had the hat trick plus one assist to figure in all of her team’s scoring as the Stoney Creek Pink defeated the Dofasco Steel Ducks by a 4-0 score. Helen Solski had the shutout. Christine Rollo (2), Shelly Mayo, Michelle Visca and Lynncy Powell had the helpers.

Goalie Jane Bauder recorded the shutout and Ashley Joslin found the net twice to lead Dofasco Canuck team to a 3-0 win over Dofasco Avalanche. Krista Cardwell had the other Canuck goal while Sheri Sheran (2) and Lorraine Callaghan picked up assists.

Stoney Creek Larry’s Sports Sharks’ Jo Louks scored with just over a minute and a half left in the game and Amanda Lishman added an insurance goal in a 2-0 win over Stoney Creek Panthers. Michelle Court assisted on both goals with Karen Nichol and Sarah Humphrey also picking up assists. Melanie McFarlane had the shutout.

Shelly Hogan had two goals plus an assist and Tammy Strong counted a goal and two assists to lead their Stoney Creek Admiral Trophies Orange Peelers squad in an 8-3 win over Weils Bakery of Westdale. Holly Aitchison, Cindy Stratford, Lee Weatherill, Elissa Cherubini and Jenn Lacombe scored the other Peeler markers. Danielle Spilotro, Amy Almas, Lindsay McDuffee, Stratford, Cherubini and Weatherill recorded assists. Paula Cormier had two goals plus an assist and Jenn Perry had a goal plus an assist for the Weils Bakery squad. Sarah Dickison and Mandy Muzzin also counted helpers.

Teddies & Slessor’s Grimsby Girls and Stoney Creek Last Chance Garage skated to a 1-1 tie. Kristy Finnie opened the scoring in the second period for the Grimsby squad assisted by Pat Reynders and Katie Kollee. Julie Rioux tied the game later in the second frame on a pass from Jenn Eaton.

In SCWHL Masters division action, Dofasco Flames topped the Stoney Creek White by a 4-2 score. Michelle McInally led the way with two goals and an assist. Wendy Dexter and Pat Baranowski scored the other Flames goals. Assists went to Kim Badgley, Antonina Fala, Baranowski and Dexter. Cindy Stratford and Corrine Currie replied for the Stoney Creek White with an assist to Michelle Carrigan.

Denise Fisher, Lynne Balloch and Chris Hicks scored as Stoney Creek Black edged Stoney Creek Pink, 3-2. Bev Tomasen picked up an assist in the win. In reply for the Pink squad, Pat Leishman scored her first career goal and also picked up an assist on Lynncy Powell’s goal.

Corrine Currie, Cindy Stratford and Rhonda Sadler scored for Stoney Creek White in a 3-1 win over Stoney Creek Yellow. Janet Vandercraat picked up an assist. Brenda Hough Brendon replied for the Yellow squad, unassisted.
