Junior golfers tourney schedule kick off this weekend

After starting in Western Canada 10 years ago, the non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) launches its 10th anniversary season in Ontario at Cambridge Golf Club in Cambridge on the May 3-4 weekend, the first of 10 tournaments in the province for Canada’s premier and only national junior tour run exclusively by golf professionals.

In addition to Cambridge, other course featured on Ontario’s multi-day schedule include Willow Valley in Hamilton, Mystic in Ancaster, Paris Grand, Osprey Valley in Orangeville, and Forest City National in London. Golf clubs hosting the one-day Fall Series include Listowel, Dundee, Foxwood in Baden, and Whistle Bear in Cambridge.

The Boston Pizza-presented MJT encourages boys and girls of all ages to come and play in the professionally-run tournaments with the objective of improving golf skills, helping to build golfing resumes, learning sportsmanship and etiquette, and developing – from an early age – a lifelong enjoyment of the game.

Participation and performance are rewarded with tee gifts, prizes, trophies and refreshments from an impressive list of sponsors including Boston Pizza, Olympus, Cleveland Golf, OGIO, Mr. Lube, Sundog Eyewear, Gatorade and more. Additionally, every multi-day tournament features exemptions to international competitions and the two May stops, for example, will qualify players for competitions in Florida, Illinois, New York State, Mexico and the U.K.

The tournaments run from May through October in Ontario; registration is on-going and more information including entry forms can be found at www.maplejt.com or by calling 1-877-859-4653.
