Stoney Creek Thunderbirds wins slug fest in Stratford


The Stoney Creek Thunderbirds and Stratford Indians combined for 23 runs on Sunday (June 8) before Stoney Creek came away with a 12-11 junior Intercounty Baseball League win.

Aldi Springstead’s solo homerun in the top of the ninth inning gave the visiting Thunderbirds the win. Eric Cronsberry got the pitching decision. Kyle Sproule was charged with the loss.

At the plate, Billy Lawrence had a three-for-five performance for Stoney Creek. For Stratford, Tyson Aitcheson hit two homeruns that produced four runs-batted-in.

The win improved Stoney Creek’s record to 3-8 while Stratford fell to 1-8. The Thunderbirds are seventh and the Indians are last in the eight team league. Stoney Creek plays on Monday (June 9) at home (Bernie Arbour Stadium) at 7:30 p.m. against the first-place Kitchener Dodgers (8-1-1).
