Royals crown Thunderbirds in lone IBL game

Ryan Hart pitched six strong innings for his fifth win of the season, leading the Guelph Royals to a 9-2 win over the Hamilton Thunderbirds in the lone senior Intercounty Baseball League game Tuesday (June 10).

Hart allowed two hits over six shutout innings, striking out nine and walking three, as the Royals moved over the .500 mark at 8-7 while the Thunderbirds slipped to 3-11, just one game out of last place in the IBL. Three relievers completed the seven-hitter for Guelph.

The Royals staked Hart to a 9-0 lead after six innings, slapping nine timely hits off four Hamilton pitchers, including loser Jesse Reinstein, who started and went 4 2/3 innings. He allowed eight runs – seven earned – on seven hits with three strikeouts and five walks.

Zack Dickson drove in three runs for the Royals with a pair of hits, while Andrew Karkoulas scored twice and had an RBI. Kyle Leon also had two hits for the Royals, while Frankie Hare scored twice, had a hit and an RBI.

Scott Wells drove in both Hamilton runs and Jerrod Wehri and Matthew Bekar each had two hits for Hamilton.
