Despite committing four errors, Hamilton Thunderbirds stole a 6-5 senior Intercounty Baseball League win from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Richard Rausch’s single in the bottom of the ninth inning drove in Jon Saporsantos with the winning run. Saporsantos had reached base when he was hit by a pitch. For the Leafs, visitors to Bernie Arbour Stadium on Tuesday (June 17) night, It was that kind of night. The Leafs, who fell to the .500 mark at 8-8, out hit the T-Birds, 12-8, but they left 11 runners stranded on the base paths.
Hamilton picked up its fifth win against 17 setbacks.
Jesse Robertson had a double and drove in two runs for the Thunderbirds. Hamilton had taken a 4-0 lead in the first inning Reliever Rob Foscarein, one of three Hamilton hurlers to take the mound, got the victory, allowing one unearned run and two hits in 1 1/3 innings. He struck out one and walked one in relief of starter Jesse Reinstein.
Leaf reliever Mark Sikorski took the loss, allowing the winning run in the ninth on one hit with one strikeout and one walk.
Ryan Fosbery had three hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Leafs, while Kyle Degrace had three hits and drove in a run.
