Monsters prove too much for Bulldogs

The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Lake Erie Monsters 3-1 on Saturday night. Philippe Dupuis scored two goals and added an assist in the American Hockey League victory for Lake Erie.

The Monsters opened the scoring while on the power play at 6:31 of the first period. T.J. Galiardi fired a shot that was stopped by Hamilton goaltender Marc Denis. The rebound came off the pads of Denis before bouncing off of Philippe Dupuis and into the net.

The visiting Bulldogs tied the game five minutes later. Yanick Lehoux sent a pass onto the stick of Mike Glumac who beat Lake Erie netminder Tyler Weiman. The goal extended Glumac’s road point streak to 15 games, the longest of any AHL player this season.

Lake Erie regained the lead with a power-play marker at 5:28 of the final frame when Dupuis scored his second goal of the night. Matt Hendricks fired a shot down the ice at 19:48 for an empty net marker to secure the win for the Monsters.

A crowd of 12,389 took in the game in which Hamilton was outshot, 35-23.

The Bulldogs host their North Division rivals, the Syracuse Crunch, at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 4) at Copps Coliseum.
