The Steel City Steelers Football organization, in partnership with The Good Shepherd, is holding its second annual Fathers’ Day classic football games and donation on Sunday (June 21) at Mohawk Sports Complex.
The prime objective will be to fill Chris Ecklund’s water falls tour bus with food for the hungry.
The day will feature a football triple header with the Atom Steelers playing the Brampton Bulldogs at 2 p.m. to get the gridiron events underway. At 4 p.m. the PeeWee Steelers and the Huronia Stallions will clash, followed by the Junior Varsity Steelers taking on the Burlington Stampeders at 6 p.m.
Donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted all day, from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Admission to the games is at least one food or clothing donation, plus $3. A barbeque will also be set up – all proceeds will be donated.
At last year’s event, the Steelers and the Good Shepherd raised $710, 1000 lbs of food, and a bin full of clothing all for the Good Shepherd’s many projects around the city.
This past Christmas, the Steelers had an early registration with a Christmas toy drive for the City Kidz of Hamilton – they raised $175 and a box of toys including an 18-speed girls bike.
