Mac tracksters scoring in summer meets

The McMaster track and field program is turning out strong performances on the track this summer.

Five McMaster student-athletes – Larry Abbott (Sarnia), Jimmy Tat (Oakville), Noah Fleming (Dundas), Jillian Wyman (Dundas) and Katie Anderson (Exeter) – competed in the Canadian Senior Track and Field Championships.

Three McMaster student-athletes – Anderson, Sara Giovannetti (Mississauga), and Jeremy Walsh (Stratford) – along with two recruits – Victoria Coates (Newmarket) and Lisa Giles (Ottawa) – competed at the Canadian Junior Track and Field Championship. All five advanced to the finals in their events.

Giovannetti earned a bronze medal in the 2000m steeplechase. Coates finished seventh in the women’s 3000m, defeating the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association’s second, third and fourth place finishers.

Two Marauders will compete for the Ontario team in the Canada Summer Games, Aug. 15-29. Wyman will run in the 1500m and Giovannetti will race in the 2000m steeplechase.
