Hamilton emerges victorious in CANUSA 2009


CanusaGamesHamilton took an 11-4 edge in competitions this past weekend and won the 52nd edition of the CANUSA Games. Hamilton also won the mayor’s competition this year when Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger beat Flint Chief of Police Alvern Lock, 2-1, at the Rosedale Tennis Club.

The overall victory left Hamilton with a 25-23 margin in the annual competition with Flint, Mich. Four other years ended in ties.

Hamilton win in 10-pin bowling (129 – 112), darts (123 – 102), golf (56.5 – 11.5), gymnastics (297.575 – 294.95), skeets (979 – 967), slo-pitch (default), soccer (11 – 6 – 3), softball (4 – 2), swimming (648 – 432), track and field (763.5 – 661.5), and volleyball (5 – 3).

Flint scored wins in baseball (6 – 2), basketball (26 – 2), karate (261 – 190), and tennis (7-7) – tie goes to the visiting city.

Individual awards went to a number of Hamilton athletes. (The awards are presented to athletes of the host city which alternates annually.)
