MAC volleyball boys use medals for national beach appearance

The Mountain Athletic Club’s 13-Under and 15U boys volleyball teams brought home medals from the Beach Volleyball Provincial Championships in Toronto. MAC players Austin MacIntyre of Campbellville and Michael Felinczak of Stoney Creek won silver in the 13U division while Jordan MacIntyre of Campbellville and Pawel Jedrzejewski of Hamilton claimed bronze in the 15U division at the tournament at Ashbridges Bay in Toronto on Aug. 1-2.

Finishing first in pool play, Austin and Michael passed through the semi-final and earned a spot in the gold medal match to face the first seeded team in the tournament. After a convincing 21-11 win in the first set, the boys battled hard in the second set until Austin sustained a foot injury and was unable to continue playing.

The duo was forced to forfeit the match in a heart-breaking finish that did not diminish their great effort. Jordan and Pawel sailed through pool play, winning all their matches on Saturday. Sunday they continued their winning streak until the semi finals where they lost 15 – 13 in a well fought tie breaker. Jordan and Pawel went on to win the bronze medal match against the third seeded team in Ontario.

Both MAC teams will be competing at the National Beach Championships later this month in Toronto.
