McMaster students earned eight medals – two golds, four silvers, and two bronzes -at the Canada Summer Games, held Aug. 15-29 in Prince Edward Island.
Second year Kinesiology student, Alison Ludzki (Toronto) captured gold in sailing (Double-handed – 29er). Ludzki is a member of the McMaster cross country and track and field teams.
Men’s rugby recruit, Tyler Ardron (Lakefield, ON) was a member of the Ontario Men’s team that earned gold over rival British Columbia.
Women’s wrestling recruit, Sydney Duggan (Orillia, ON) was a member of the gold medal winning Ontario women’s wrestling team. She was also decorated with a bronze medal in the 49kg weight class.
McMaster female athlete of the year, Jillian Wyman, crossed the line with a silver medal in the women’s 1,500m competition in a time of 4:32.01.
Men’s volleyball student-athletes, Shawn Bench (St. Catharines), Jeremy Groenveld (Welland), and Tyler Santoni (Kingston) took home silver medals in a tough fought final match against Alberta.
McMaster third year Commerce student, Joanne Prokop (Oakville), captured a bronze medal in sailing (Single-handed – Laser).
Other McMaster participants in the Canada Summer Games included: incoming student Devon Novakowski (Kingston) who placed fourth in Cycling (Road Race), and second-year, cross country and track and field, student-athlete, Sara Giovannetti (Mississauga) who was seventh in the 2000m steeplechase.
