Comeback highlights Mohawk win in OCAA women’s soccer kickoff

mountaineersMohawk spotted Conestoga the first half lead then rallied to edge the Condors 2-1 in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association women’s soccer in Kitchener Tuesday (Sep. 15). It was the season opener for Mohawk.

The Condors struck first, with Tash Ann Blais knocking a rebound past Mountaineers’ goalkeeper Stacy Pribeli for the lone goal in the first half. But Pribeli would bounce back making some key saves to allow her teammates to mount their comeback. And it was a pair of midfielders – rookie Jen Seguin and veteran Zalona Caruso – who scored for Mohawk to pull out the victory.

Seguin’s goal was beautiful, said co-head coach Renzo Castellani. “She picked up the ball outside the area. She then unleashed a terrific shot into the corner of the net. Their goalie had no chance.”

Castellani was very pleased with the comeback, especially on the road. “It was a good game. Conestoga (now 1-1) has a lot of good players. They are not going to lose many games.”
The Mohawk women have their home opener on Friday (Sep. 18) at 4:30 p.m. at Mohawk Sports Park versus the Humber Hawks from Etobicoke.

The Mohawk men head to Kitchener today (Wednesday) for their first game of the season against Conestoga. They also play their home opener against Humber on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
