Road woes dog Mohawk women in fastball

mountaineersMohawk’s women’s fastball team fell victim to a record smashing pitching performance and slipped to 0-2 with a 5-1 defeat by Seneca in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association play in North York on Tuesday (Sep. 15). It was Seneca’s first game of the season.

Sting pitcher Rebecca Cunningham checked the Mountaineers on just four hits, but the real story was her OCAA record breaking 17 strikeouts. The performance eclipsed the league mark of 16 held by two former pitchers, including Mohawk star Jenny Koschanow in 2005.
Jessica Roloson of the Mountaineers saw her record fall to 0-2.

Mohawk continues on the road this weekend, with both league and tournament play at Durham College in Oshawa.

The Mountaineers’ first home action will be a doubleheader with St. Clair on Tuesday (Sept. 22) starting at 5:30 p.m. at Mohawk Sports Park.
